Yo, Vampire... get ready for a battle of attrition!"
— Zombieman realizing he'll need to do some exercise.

Zombieman vs. Pureblood was the battle between the S-Class hero Zombieman and the Demon-level mysterious being Pureblood of the Monster Association.

Prelude[]

Zombieman slaughtering monsters

Zombieman embarks on a rampage through the Monster Association Headquarters and ascends a flight of stairs, where he encounters an army of monsters. Rather than attacking, they provoke Zombieman into confronting the formidable monster hidden behind the doors. Zombieman steps through the door to find the vampire Pureblood hanging upside down from the ceiling.

Battle[]

Is that a bat

Pureblood descends from the ceiling

As Pureblood descends to the floor, the monsters outside rush in to witness the clash between the two. One of them locks the doors, ensuring neither combatant can escape. Zombieman questions why the other monsters intend to ambush Pureblood, who reveals their envy of his power. Pureblood declares his intent to eliminate the other monsters once their fight concludes and asks about Zombieman's identity. Zombieman begins to introduce himself but quickly draws his pistols and fires at Pureblood. The vampire, however, manages to dash behind him and bites into his carotid artery. Surprisingly, Pureblood recoils in disgust at the hero's foul-tasting blood.

Pureblood catches bullets

Zombieman regains his footing, and Pureblood, believing him to be on his last legs, boasts of his legacy as the strongest and only natural monster within the Monster Association, hailing from a hereditary line of vampires. Zombieman reloads his pistols with more powerful ammunition and fires at Pureblood, the recoil breaking both of Zombieman's arms. Pureblood catches two bullets and flicks the projectiles back at Zombieman, one piercing through his head and the other through his chest. Astonished, Pureblood watches Zombieman remain standing despite having his brain and organs blown apart. He recognizes Zombieman as the infamous undying S-Class hero, mocking his title of "phony monster" and branding him a "phony human." Zombieman snarls at him to be silent and unsheathes two machetes. Pureblood taunts his lackluster combat skills while effortlessly dodging his attacks. Pureblood forms a large wrist blade, which Zombieman manages to block. Sliding his machete along the blade, he attempts to strike again, but Pureblood dodges easily before delivering a kick that snaps Zombieman's neck 180 degrees. Nonetheless, Zombieman manages to fire his pistol, creating a significant hole in Pureblood's chest.

Pure Ripper

A nearby monster laughs at Zombieman's first successful hit, prompting Pureblood to rip the monster in half and drink its blood to heal the damage. He sadistically laughs and warns Zombieman not to get ahead of himself before transforming into numerous bats that swarm Zombieman, tearing his body apart. The bats then target two other monsters, draining their blood. Pureblood mocks Zombieman, asking how he is faring; one bat becomes trapped in the hero's regenerating body. Seeing how powerful the vampire is, Zombieman realizes the battle will be grueling, so he takes out his long-bearded axe. He challenges Pureblood to a war of attrition, and their fight resumes.

Thirty minutes later, Zombieman stands triumphant over Pureblood's bloody corpse, surrounded by dead bats and suffering numerous heavy wounds. The dying vampire is both shocked and confused by Zombieman's persistence, having "killed" him repeatedly. Zombieman informs the unresponsive Pureblood that he inflicted about two hundred lethal wounds, affirming it was indeed a tough battle.

Aftermath[]

Goreman

Zombieman in a near-death state

Zombieman approaches the door, preparing to leave, but collapses to one knee at the entrance. The thirty other monsters remind him that he won't be escaping and prepare to swarm him. Instead of yielding to fear, Zombieman bends the steel bar to lock the door, trapping the monsters inside. Confident in their numbers, they charge at him, leading to a prolonged and arduous battle. Eventually, Zombieman emerges from the room with grievous injuries, including exposed ribs, a missing eye, absent lips, a large opening in his head, and his left arm hanging by mere strands of flesh. In an instant, his left arm falls off. Zombieman estimates it will take a few minutes to fully heal, so while his arm regenerates, he lights a cigarette to unwind. Suddenly, two large robots resembling Metal Knight's Drone show up, having detected him. Annoyed, Zombieman tosses his cigarette aside and, following an unseen battle, stands victorious. He receives a call from Child Emperor, confirming that everything is alright at his location. Zombieman feels relieved that he is not the only one taking the situation seriously, and after fully healing, he prepares to go on another rampage.

Trivia[]

  • The battle lasted about 30 minutes.[1]
  • In the webcomic, the battle was exclusively between Zombieman and Pureblood. All the other monsters are manga exclusive.
  • In the panel where Zombieman stands victoriously over Pureblood's mangled head, there are a few monsters in the background that resemble a kaiju from many tokusatsu franchises, such as Baragon, a kaiju from the Godzilla film series, Gan-Q from Ultraman Gaia series, Gamakugira and Seabozu from Ultraman (1966) series.
