| — Garou |
Many heroes are killed by Garou in the Ominous Future.
The Ominous Future (不吉な未来, Fukitsuna Mirai) refers to the disastrous future or timeline that occurs during the fight between Saitama and Garou.
Several tragic events take place during their battle in the Ominous Future (original timeline). After defeating Garou, Saitama goes back in time and successfully prevents these devastating outcomes from happening again. As a result, the original timeline differs from the current one. It is implied that the original timeline no longer exists due to the reversal of causality caused by Saitama's time travel.
A notable remnant of the Ominous Future is the core of the deceased Genos from that timeline, which Saitama brings back to the current timeline.
Event[]
Garou kills Genos.
Having transformed under the influence of "God" and attained his Cosmic Fear Mode, which grants him incredible power, Garou battles Saitama once again. After striking Saitama with his Gamma Ray Burst and sending him hurtling away, Garou confronts numerous heroes on the surface of the ruined Z-City in Saitama's absence. Influenced by "God," Garou's body emits radiation strong enough to cause the heroes present to pass out and pose a threat to all life on Earth. Recognizing the grave danger, Blast, the S-Class Rank 1 hero, arrives to stop the Hero Hunter. Following a brief scuffle, Garou dismisses Blast as unworthy and shifts his focus to Genos, impaling him through his chest before tearing out his power core, resulting in the cyborg's death.
Later, Saitama returns, depressed to find that his disciple and many other heroes have been killed by Garou, while Blast, unharmed, warns the Caped Baldy to stay back. However, filled with rage and grief, Saitama charges at Garou with a Serious Punch. Using his supernatural mimicry ability, Mode: Saitama, to harness Saitama's striking power, Garou attempts to counter with his own version of the attack. Aware of the immense power in their punches, Blast quickly teleports them to space out of fear that the planet will be destroyed. Outside the planet's atmosphere, Saitama and Garou collide their fists, releasing massive energy waves that threaten to obliterate the Earth below. As Blast struggles to manage the energy alone, three of his comrades arrive to assist him, and together they successfully redirect the energy released from the fighters' punches away from the planet. Saitama and Garou are subsequently propelled to Io, a moon of Jupiter, by the recoil of their own punches.
Saitama sees memories of his battle with Garou while traveling through time.
The two resume their battle, with Saitama ultimately emerging victorious. Garou, filled with regret over his actions that led to Tareo's death, along with many other heroes who succumbed to his radiation, decides to pass on to Saitama his most powerful technique, which involves manipulating time, hoping the hero can master it to travel backward. Moments after executing the technique, Garou is killed by "God", but not before Saitama grasps the technique and begins to successfully travel through time.
Saitama travels back to the past, bringing with him the core of the deceased Genos from the future, and arrives at the moment when Garou, right after unleashing his Gamma Ray Burst, confronts numerous heroes. With a single punch to the face, he decisively defeats Garou this time, preventing the Ominous Future from occurring again. Having altered the future, Saitama is forcibly merged with the current timeline version of himself, losing the memory of the events in the Ominous Future. Struck by a mysterious knockout punch, a bewildered Garou screams in agony as "God's" powers begin to leave him, while the watching heroes are left in shock.
Aftermath[]
Genos experiencing memories from the Ominous Future.
After returning to the past and merging with his "past" self, Saitama is unable to recall the events that transpired, yet he still holds the core of the deceased Genos from the Ominous Future. Shocked by the depleted core and concerned for his disciple, Saitama is approached by the now-alive Genos. Noticing that the core in Saitama's hand resembles his own, Genos attempts to activate it by connecting a sub-connector. Instantly, the memories contained within the core, which traveled through time and space with Saitama, flow into the cyborg, momentarily stunning him.
Genos soon confirms that the core indeed belongs to him and wonders if the memories are from a possible future. He then attempts to recount everything that happened in the Ominous Future to Saitama in great detail, which confuses Saitama, who is reluctant to listen and simply tells him to stop. Believing that Saitama is feigning forgetfulness and that he alone understands Saitama's time-traveling efforts to save everyone, Genos smiles and declares Saitama a true hero, considering that he must inform others in need of this knowledge as well.
Casualties and Damage[]
Before being overwritten, the Ominous Future was marked by overwhelming loss and destruction caused by Garou under the influence of "God". The environment was devastated due to the release of cosmic radiation by Garou.
Those Who Have Perished in the Ominous Future[]
Most of the deaths in the Ominous Future involved heroes who were near Garou and died from radiation exposure. It is presumed that nearly all individuals present in Z-City during Garou's appearance while under the influence of "God" perished. This includes a large number of active heroes and even those who were unconscious during the events. The following individuals (at minimum) died in the original timeline due to proximity to Garou's radiation, with the exception of Genos and Garou. Trivia[]
- In the original webcomic, after his fight with Superalloy Darkshine, Garou claimed himself to be the Ominous Future when confronting Fubuki.[1] Unlike in the manga, Garou specifically said it in reference to the future Psykos has foreseen that made her want to destroy humanity in response to Fubuki mentioning it.
