I've noticed a lot of names of the monsters seem to be from fan-translated scans of the manga, some of which took liberties in translating the names. Fuhrer Ugly (President Ugly), Overgrown Rover (Overgrown Pochi), The Great Food Tub (Big Eater, the scans' name for this one are actually totally mistranlated), and Royal Ripper (King the Ripper) are the ones that stand out to me the most, the Viz names for them are a lot closer to the original Japanese names.
Since the goal of wikis are to remain encyclopedic, shouldn't these names be changed to more closely match the Japanese originals? I understand some names being kept if Viz took liberties and altered them, but these four in particular are further from the Japanese translation than the original names were. Plus, the Viz release is an officially licensed release of the manga, while the fanmade scanlations aren't official. BubbleRevolution (talk) 07:04, March 25, 2020 (UTC)
- To put it bluntly; a lot of the Viz names suck. We are not an official wiki and we do not represent the Viz translations. We are not forced by any means to use their translation choices. Ultimately this is a wiki for the fans and the general fandom preference (not speaking for everyone of course) is the currently naming schemes for most of the characters.
