Too slow.
— Empty Void to Flashy Flash.

Speed-o'-Sound Sonic and Flashy Flash vs. Empty Void is the retconned battle between the two ninjas Speed-o'-Sound Sonic and Flashy Flash, and Empty Void, the Ninja Village leader.

Following the revision of the chapters involving this fight, it is now considered non-canon and not part of the official story.

Prelude[]

After Speed-o'-Sound Sonic and Flashy Flash defeat the Heavenly Ninja Party, Sonic remarks on Flash's growth and wonders what opponents he has been fighting since becoming a hero. Violent Force, mortally wounded and dying, then addresses to the two ninjas. Although Violent Force commends their skills, he claims that Sonic and Flash are nothing compared to "That Man" (Empty Void's alias). He speaks highly of the Ninja Village leader’s abilities, claiming that the leader could easily defeat all members of the Heavenly Ninja Party in a hypothetical battle. With his last breath, Violent Force warns Sonic and Flash that they will come to understand once they face the leader, and that they cannot escape him.

Sonic asks the cautious Flash whether he thinks "That Man" has already arrived, to which Flash suspects he has.

Battle[]

Flashy Flash attacking Empty Void disguised as Flash

Flash attacking the disguished Void.

Right after Flash finishes speaking, a duplicate of Flash suddenly appears next to Sonic, handing him a mysterious cube. Totally caught off guard, Sonic touches the cube, despite the real Flash nearby desperately shouting at him not to. As soon as Sonic makes contact with the cube, it immediately renders him unconscious. The real Flash delivers an upward slash toward the fake Flash, but to no avail. After dodging the sword strike, the impostor appears behind Flash, mocks him for being slow, and then reveals himself to be Empty Void, who has utilized his illusion abilities to disguise himself as Flash and deceive Sonic. With his sword-wielding hand now restrained by Void, Flash attempts to kick the ninja leader. However, Void swiftly evades the kick and simultaneously strikes Flash in the chest with the mysterious cube in his left hand. Flash's consciousness fades away due to coming into contact with the cube as he desperately tries to reach Void.

Sonic punches Flash in the face and wakes him up

In his dream, Flash is greeted by "Sonic" as a young child, happy to see his friend awake. "Sonic" expresses joy at escaping the Ninja Village with Flash and congratulates him on reaching the dream place they envisioned. Flash realizes they are at the site where they dreamed of creating a new Ninja Village and feels relieved. Just as Flash tells "Sonic" that he was having a nightmare, "Sonic" is revealed to be "God" in disguise. The fake Sonic states that any nightmare is better than life in the village and suggests they work together to achieve their childhood dream, extending his hand to Flash. When "God" deceives Flash, nearly turning him into a Mysterious Being, Sonic, having broken free from the cube's influence, punches Flash forcefully, waking him from the illusory dream. Impressed that Sonic managed to resist the cube's effect, Void labels him an "infidel." Sonic then explains to Flash that the vision was likely an illusion designed to exploit one's emotional vulnerabilities and tempt them. Void comments on the dynamic between the duo, asserting that those confident in their abilities cannot maintain an equal relationship, and that their eventual separation is inevitable. Flash mistakenly interprets this as Void speaking about himself and Blast, but Void clarifies that he is referring to Sonic and Flash - the former excelling in mental fortitude, while the latter surpasses in skill, resulting in a balanced partnership. Vehemently disagreeing with Void's assessment, Sonic and Flash generate numerous afterimages through their high-speed movements and charge at the ninja leader in a coordinated effort to impale him. Since Sonic has proven resistant to the cube's effect, Void decides to eliminate him.

Empty Void about to slice through a bubble

Void about to unleash his Dimension Slash at Sonic's location from outside of the universe.

Their attack misses as Void warps himself to a hyperspace dimension outside the usual causality of the universe. In this higher dimensional space, he can perceive parallel worlds infinitely branching out with every possibility, visually depicted as floating "bubbles" that he can interact with using a special jutsu. Focusing his attention on a specific bubble containing Sonic and Flash, Void identifies Sonic as the primary target and, employing his Dimension Slash technique, cuts through the selected bubble to strike at Sonic's exact location from beyond the confines of the universe. Seemingly sensing the attack coming, Flash warns Sonic, who is then immediately struck by several widespread slashes that "seemingly" obliterate his upper body and kill him. Horrified at Sonic's apparent demise, Flash is confronted by the teleporting Void, who seeks to attempt converting the emotionally vulnerable Flash into a Mysterious Being again. Just as Void is about to hit Flash with the mysterious cube to induce sleep, Blast intervenes, punching the ninja leader back with his Gravity Knuckle and saving Flash.

Aftermath[]

It is revealed that Sonic was in fact saved by Blast as well, who had used a portal to conceal Sonic's upper body, making it look like his upper body got destroyed. When Sonic questions how Blast knew of their whereabouts, he responds that the challenge letter to Flash looked suspicious, prompting him to surreptitiously follow him. Though he admits that he lost sight of Flash due to the fog surrounding the mountains, he was able to locate them again through the disruption caused by Void's Dimension Slash. Blast then praises Sonic and Flash for having overcome the temptation of the cube.

Trivia[]

  • In the original webcomic, instead of Violent Force talking to them, it was the dying Gale Wind who told Sonic and Flash about the Ninja Village leader.[1]
