Even he cannot explain the secret to his strength... But this battle may afford me a clue!
— Genos on Saitama.

Saitama vs. Genos is the first spar between Saitama and Genos.

Prelude[]

After both Saitama and Genos passed the National Superhero Registry exam, they were ranked at the bottom of their respective classes, Genos at rank 17 in S-Class and Saitama at rank 388 in C-Class. Later, Genos thanks Saitama for accepting his request for a sparring match and asks him to take it seriously. The purpose of the match is to gauge the extent of Saitama's power.

Battle[]

Genos Arms Mode Incineration Cannon

Genos lunges at Saitama but misses, then follows up with a rapid series of punches, all of which Saitama effortlessly dodges. Genos attempts to strike with his Incineration Cannon but fails to land a hit. He tries another barrage of punches but realizes too late that he has only been chasing Saitama's afterimage the entire time. Genos then fires a more powerful version of his Incineration Cannon, but Saitama easily evades it. Appearing behind Genos, Saitama casually taps him on the shoulder, and when Genos turns, he pokes his cheek and declares victory. Genos, refusing to accept defeat, throws a punch, but Saitama effortlessly dodges it by leaping over him.

Genos reminds Saitama that the fight is supposed to be taken seriously and should continue until one of them is unable to fight. Saitama's legs tense slightly before he suddenly appears in front of Genos. Genos quickly attempts a kick, but Saitama flash-steps behind him. As Genos turns to react, Saitama unleashes a punch straight toward him. Overwhelmed by the sensation of impending death, Genos is completely paralyzed. At the last moment, Saitama halts his punch just before impact, yet the force of the blow still seems to ripple around Genos. Saitama then taps him on the forehead and suggests they go eat some udon.

Aftermath[]

The sheer force of Saitama's punch is revealed to have carved a massive hole through the cliffside behind Genos and even parted the clouds, creating a canyon-like formation. Witnessing this, Genos realizes he may never come close to reaching Saitama's strength.

Trivia[]

  • The battle lasted 4 minutes and 33 seconds, being Saitama's second longest battle after his fight against Boros.[1]
  • In the manga, Saitama's punch does not blow a hole through the mountain behind Genos.
