Saitama vs. Awakened Garou is the battle between Saitama and the Hero Hunter Garou, who has become a monster.
Prelude[]
After defeating Sage Centipede, Garou observes the surroundings but finds no S-Class heroes in sight. He concludes that they must have all been defeated, realizing it's time for him to pursue his ultimate goal: to become "Absolute Evil." However, a wave of anxiety washes over him as he wonders what happened to Evil Ocean Water. To his surprise, Saitama appears behind him and asks what he is supposed to be. Although Garou does not recognize Saitama, he responds by declaring himself a monster destined to plunge humanity into despair and achieve "Absolute Evil." Saitama, confused, questions whether Garou is truly evil, noting that he once saved a helicopter from Sage Centipede. Garou explains that he needs witnesses to spread fear and demonstrate that he surpasses every hero and monster, asserting that "Absolute Evil" is linked to absolute strength. He then tells Saitama to abandon his heroics, claiming he will soon annihilate both the Monster Association and the Hero Association. After hearing Garou's declaration, Saitama begins to walk away without acknowledging him as a monster, causing Garou to doubt whether the hero is taking him seriously. With a frustrated expression, Saitama tells Garou that he went out of his way to complain about the noise, only to have his house destroyed later. Upset, he grumbles that he would prefer to blow up the entire planet, which sends a shiver down Garou's spine. As Saitama departs, Garou calls after him, insisting that he will pay for underestimating "Absolute Evil," and charges at him with a punch. Unfortunately for Garou, Saitama is faster, and with an impulsive punch, he knocks Garou back before he can connect. After being struck, Garou recalls Saitama, recognizing him as the bald man he has encountered multiple times before.
Battle[]
The Embodiment of Unfairness vs. Absolute Evil[]
Garou recovers from Saitama's punch and begins to fight him seriously. They exchange blows while soaring through the air, reaching incredible heights. Saitama throws a punch aimed at Garou's head, but Garou dodges it and counters with an ax kick that slams Saitama into the ground, cracking the land beneath them. As Saitama regains his footing, Garou descends with a hand chop, striking him on the head and creating a powerful shockwave. However, the hand-chop fails to faze Saitama, who responds with a simple headbutt that shatters Garou's forearm. Despite the injury, Garou quickly regenerates his forearm and lands a punch on Saitama's face, which irritates the Caped Baldy. In retaliation, Saitama delivers a punch that sends Garou flying back a significant distance. In response to his growing anger, Garou's body undergoes a mutation, increasing both his size and strength. Tareo then approaches him, declaring that he is a hero, which frustrates Garou, who insists once more that he is not a hero at all.
Despite Garou's protests, Tareo maintains that he sees Garou as the greatest hero and tells him to stop pretending to be a monster. Saitama slowly approaches the two, commenting on Garou's actions, such as hunting heroes, thrashing dojos, and now making kids cry. As Saitama steps closer to the Hero Hunter, Tareo attempts to intervene and prevent further conflict. However, Garou, provoked by Saitama, delivers a powerful punch to his head. To Garou's astonishment, Saitama remains unscathed, and he reassures a shocked Tareo that Garou cannot harm him. Garou then attempts to kick Saitama, but the hero effortlessly slaps him away. Saitama turns to Tareo and asks if the boy wants him to stop Garou, to which Tareo nods in agreement.
With only the two of them left, Saitama questions why Garou is acting like a monster when he had previously helped heroes. Garou argues that he was merely using them to achieve his own objectives. When Saitama equates Garou's concept of "Absolute Evil" with the idea of world peace, Garou charges at him in anger. He skillfully parries Saitama's punch, delivers a hand chop to the right side of his face, and then punches him in the head before elbowing him in the stomach, all in rapid succession. As Saitama grabs Garou's arm, Garou counters with a series of lock-on moves, ultimately landing a powerful punch to Saitama's hip. He then unleashes his God Slayer Instant Attack, bombarding Saitama with a flurry of punches and hand strikes that slam him into the ground. However, Saitama quickly reemerges after burrowing underground and hurls a large rock at Garou, asking if he's avoiding his punches thanks to "martial arts." Garou acknowledges this while shattering the rock by rotating his arms.
Garou attempts a barrage of attacks on Saitama, but the hero manages to dodge. Impressed, Garou comments on Saitama's impressive reflexes and agility, yet notes that he lacks technique and has numerous openings to exploit. Claiming he can anticipate all of Saitama's moves, Garou tells him that his deficiencies in technique and skill will lead to his defeat. He then executes his God Slayer Ascending Attack, delivering a powerful punch to Saitama's stomach, followed by a knee strike to the same area before sending him crashing into several buildings with a kick. Garou quickly follows up with his Great Fa Jin, driving Saitama through the structures, demolishing them and creating a cloud of dust and debris. Believing he has secured victory, Garou declares that while Saitama may have incredibly tough skin and bones, he cannot train his internal organs, which he believes have been damaged by his assault.
To Garou's surprise, Saitama emerges completely unscathed. In the process of destroying the buildings, Garou inadvertently frees five Hero Association staff members trapped in an underground shelter. As they express their gratitude before leaving, Saitama ironically remarks on how "Absolute Evil" seems good at saving people. Infuriated, Garou attacks Saitama once more and undergoes a further transformation, taking on a demonic form with wings and longhorns.
While fending off Garou's relentless assault, Saitama states that Garou has improved a little, which only serves to enrage the Hero Hunter. With a powerful punch, Garou sends Saitama hurtling toward a volcano that is on the verge of erupting. Garou then charges at Saitama, striking him with both open palms, causing the mountain behind them to shatter from the force of the impact. After the attack, Garou finds himself on his knees, panting, while Saitama simply punches him away. Regaining his balance, Garou is impressed that Saitama could withstand his attack. Ironically, in destroying the volcano, Garou has also saved a nearby city from being engulfed by lava, which piques Saitama's interest. He comments that Garou possesses remarkable hero instincts, reminiscent of King.
Garou grows two additional arms and intensifies his assault on Saitama, showing clear panic in his attempts to defeat the hero. Despite Garou unleashing attacks with all four arms, Saitama effortlessly dodges and parries his punches with just one hand, telling him to give up. In a bold move, Garou places two of his hands on Saitama and transforms into a jet-like form, using his remaining two arms to generate energy for propulsion. He then unleashes his powerful attack Extreme Fa Jin, driving Saitama deep into the Earth. The impact creates intense seismic waves that ripple through the planet's core. This attack is so overwhelmingly powerful that it raises a large landmass on the opposite side of the planet and distorts the surrounding space, disrupting both the magnetic and gravitational fields.
Despite his best efforts, Saitama remains unfazed by Garou's powerful attack and retaliates with his Consecutive Normal Punches. As they emerge from the depths of the Earth, Garou attempts to defend against Saitama's relentless barrage but fails miserably. In this moment, Garou recalls the "abominable fist" that Sage Centipede mentioned and realizes it refers to Saitama, not himself. Saitama lands a punch to Garou's face, causing him to crash through several mountains and eventually fall into a massive puddle.
As he slowly rises, Garou is both shocked and enraged by Saitama's overwhelming strength, perceiving him as the embodiment of unfairness. Fueled by this anger, Garou charges at Saitama with a punch, determined not to be defeated. However, Saitama retaliates with a punch that sends Garou flying, shattering his monstrous form and revealing his true human self hidden within. Garou laments his defeat at the hands of such injustice and before long, he hears a voice calling to him, claiming that there is only one fist capable of countering "The Fist That Has Turned Against God." In that moment, Garou sees a vision of Bang hovering above him, offering his hand.
The Ominous Future: Awakened Garou Cosmic Fear Mode[]
Afterwards, Saitama ominously notes that something is coming, and sees Garou leap down from behind to face him again. Saitama exclaims that Garou's changed costumes again, while Garou, having received powers from "God", replies that the only way to counter "The Fist That Has Turned Against God" is "The Fist of God". Now appearing as a void of stars and galaxies, Garou takes a fighting stance with his new form called Awakened Garou: Cosmic Fear Mode, readying for another round against the invincible hero.
Having gained the knowledge of the universe's energy flow and the behavior of cosmic forces, Garou develops a new fighting style called All Life Eradication Fist. He unleashes a cataclysmic attack named Nuclear Fission, resulting in a massive nuclear explosion followed by several more blasts that reach into the sky. As Garou continues his assault, surviving heroes, including Psykos, who has emerged since her defeat by Tatsumaki, watch in awe and horror. The battle between Saitama and Garou is obscured by a mountainous cloud from Garou's attack, with their silhouettes briefly visible amid flashes of power.
Despite the overwhelming force of the attack, Saitama is more concerned about his outfit. Garou proclaims that he feels invincible, explaining to Saitama that martial artists have secret techniques called Shakkei, which allow them to borrow the power of nature by mimicking the movements of living creatures. Garou prefers to call these techniques "Modes," as he finds the term cooler. He demonstrates one of these modes, Mode: Saitama, causing Saitama's face to appear in place of Garou's featureless void-like visage, which surprises the hero. Garou then duplicates Saitama's Consecutive Normal Punches, attacking him with his own technique. In response, Saitama counters with his own Consecutive Normal Punches, resulting in an even exchange of blows that creates great destruction around them. The exchange ends with both Saitama and Garou simultaneously landing a punch to each other's faces, sending them crashing into the water below.
Both of them quickly leap out of the water, with Garou taunting Saitama about how he must be at a loss for words upon finding someone who can match him blow for blow. Reflecting on his promise to Tareo not to get scratched, Saitama feels dismayed, which prompts Garou to demonstrate the powerlessness of heroes. He charges up, his body encased in a singularity, before launching an incredibly powerful attack called Gamma Ray Burst toward Saitama. Realizing the catastrophic potential of the attack if it grazes the ground, Saitama decides to jump high into the air to avoid it, though Garou mistakenly thinks he is trying to dodge. The attack hits, engulfing Saitama and sending him flying away. With Saitama now absent, Garou lands on a pile of debris, ready to confront the remaining heroes of the Hero Association.
The remaining heroes quickly realize that the man before them is the source of the massive explosions that just occurred. Only the S-Class heroes stand their ground, while lower-ranked heroes flee in terror. Observing their fear, Garou questions whether he has finally achieved his ultimate goal of becoming "Absolute Evil." He gazes into the sky and utters the words "thank you," though it remains unclear to whom he is speaking. Bang, one of the heroes who chose to confront Garou rather than run away, asks if a monster has influenced him. Garou reveals that he was not truly deceived by the entity that approached him earlier, and instead knew all along that the strange figure who took on the form of Bang was not his master. Regardless, Garou simply coming into contact with the entity was enough for him to be greatly influenced by it, although Garou insists that he has not become a puppet, stating that his actions are entirely of his own volition. After making this clear, Garou decides that it is now time to conduct evil.
As Garou steps closer to the remaining heroes, Child Emperor and Waganma suddenly bleed from their noses and collapse to the ground, unconscious. Despite Garou's insistence that he is in control, Bang believes there is an inherent evil within him that is driving his actions. At that moment, the S-Class Rank 1 hero, Blast, teleports into the area and introduces himself. He attempts to reason with Garou, explaining that he is being controlled by the mysterious entity known as "God". Blast warns that in Garou's current form, any attack he unleashes could endanger all life on Earth. Although Garou maintains a nonchalant demeanor, he appears intrigued by Blast's words and asks what he should do. Blast offers to transport Garou to another dimension, but the Hero Hunter declines, boasting that his mere presence is causing death and believing that he has become the symbol of fear. Bang tries to intervene and stop Garou, but suddenly, Genos, using the last remnants of his power, lunges at the seemingly invincible foe and headbutts him in the chest, though it proves ineffective. Garou grabs Genos by the hair, but before he can act further, Blast intervenes, leading to a brief battle between the two. Although Blast manages to ward off Garou's attacks, the Hero Hunter dismisses him as inconsequential.
Realizing that Saitama will return and that he is hiding his true strength, Garou decides to kill Genos to provoke Saitama into revealing his full power. He then impales the cyborg through the chest and rips out his power core, resulting in Genos's death. Moments later, Saitama finally returns to the scene as black liquid begins to rain down due to the nuclear fallout that resulted from Garou's nuclear attacks. He stands in front of Garou with Blast on the opposite side, while everyone else, including Bang, has succumbed to the cosmic radiation emitted by Garou. Seeing Genos' lifeless corpse, a sorrowful Saitama questions whether he truly has a hero's intuition. Overwhelmed by grief and anger, Saitama unleashes a devastating Serious Punch toward Garou, who responds with a Serious Punch of his own, having incorporated Saitama's striking power once again through his supernatural copying power, Mode: Saitama. Blast immediately and fearfully realizes that the two colliding attacks will destroy the Earth.
Blast instantly summons a portal beneath the two and just before their fists collide, they are transported far above the atmosphere of the Earth. When Saitama and Garou's fists clash, a Serious PunchĀ² is created, the energy erupted from it being so powerful that Blast's dimensional gate is unable to contain it. Aware that the destructive energy needs to be redirected away from Earth, three of Blast's allies come to his aid and together, they manage to accomplish it. As a result, Saitama and Garou are launched far away from the planet due to the recoil of their own punches while the shockwave of energy itself is directed by Blast and his teammates towards another direction, blowing a massive hole in the cosmos and presumably destroying numerous star systems in the process.
The Battle on the Moon of Jupiter[]
Saitama and Garou crash onto a natural satellite, revealed to be Io, one of Jupiter's moons. Both are bewildered and confused about their sudden change in location, with Saitama standing over Garou on a small hill, claiming he can finally unleash his full power against someone who can withstand it. However, despite the situation, Saitama shows no excitement. Garou suggests they find a way back to Earth, but Saitama dismisses him, insisting he will beat Garou first, confident he only needs one hand to do so.
Unfazed, Garou summons a hyperspace portal beneath Saitama in an attempt to teleport him away, only for the Caped Baldy to casually kick the portal aside, much to Garou's utter befuddlement. Unable to react in time, Garou is rocked in the face by a punch from Saitama that sends him flying off Io. The Hero Hunter quickly creates a portal to reappear behind Saitama, aiming to strike him with a punch from his blind spot. However, Saitama flips Garou's portal upside down, causing Garou's punch to miss, and then lands a punch on Garou's chin, sending him crashing to the ground. Unimpressed, Saitama tells Garou to stop using "tricks" and fight him with his fists, mocking him about whether such attacks represent his so-called "ultimate martial arts."
Garou stands up, and offended by his taunt, obliges while declaring that he has absorbed many martial styles and can use all of them in synergy before dashing around Saitama with immense speed through multiple portals in an attempt to disorient him. He then first attacks Saitama with Roaring Aura Sky Ripping Fist, bombarding him with a barrage of punches. When Saitama retaliates with a punch, Garou deflects the punch away with Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist before sending the hero flying with Exploding Heart Release Fist, followed by Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist that shreds Saitama's clothes, then finally ending the combo with Nuclear Fission Gravity Knuckle that creates a massive atomic explosion which is soon absorbed into a singularity by Gravity Knuckle. Standing amidst the smoke, Garou boasts that his fists are unavoidable and that timing is irrelevant. To his astonishment, Saitama emerges unscathed except for being completely naked, casually stating that he can do something similar.
Saitama demonstrates by digging his fingers into the ground with one hand and unleashing a new attack called Serious Table Flip, hurling massive amounts of Io's surface into the air along with Garou. The attack utterly decimates the entire surface of Io as Garou is helplessly propelled high into the debris. This allows Saitama to use the fractured moon parts as stepping stones to attack the Hero Hunter from all directions. Saitama dashes around Garou at incredible speed, creating many afterimages, and then directs his afterimages and himself toward Garou simultaneously with another killer move named Omnidirectional Serious Punch. Garou narrowly avoids the attack by jumping into a portal, only to find himself horrified as Saitama is directly below him, delivering a Serious Punch.
Garou ricochets off the debris from the punch, but Saitama punches him away just as he is about to hit another slab. Saitama moves around Garou with high-speed, punching him across the devastated surface of Io and creating a geometric pattern of light from the intensity of his blows. Garou then furiously repels Saitama's relentless assault with Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, landing on a large slab of debris. He tries to regain his composure while searching for a way to ascend from the rubble. As he creates a portal, his head is smashed into another slab of rock. Stunned, Garou realizes that Saitama's onslaught has completely disoriented him, leaving him feeling like a caged insect trapped in a child's grasp. Before he can react, Saitama delivers another Serious Punch that hits Garou in the face. Garou, shocked by Saitama's unending strength, remains resolute, declaring he will continue to copy the hero's power until he achieves victory, activating Mode: Saitama just as both he and the Caped Baldy punch each other in the face.
Exponential Growth: The Invincible Hero[]
The battle rages on as Garou punches through a hyperspace portal, narrowly missing Saitama's face on the opposite end. Saitama quickly counters with a punch of his own, which connects with Garou's face through one of his portals. Hurtling backward from the impact, Garou swiftly creates another portal behind him, redirecting himself behind Saitama. Using his momentum, he delivers an axe kick to Saitama's head, while Saitama simultaneously counters with a punch to Garou's gut. The punch sends Garou back into the portal, but he quickly opens another one to swipe at Saitama, missing as Saitama jumps upward. He lands on a large slab of debris, leaps down with tremendous force, shattering the slab, and follows up with a powerful karate chop to Garou's neck. Garou realizes that Saitama is mimicking his moves, and Saitama taunts him about his earlier claim of copying and surpassing him, emphasizing that this was the whole point of this battle.
As their fight escalates, they dash across the shattered surface of Io, exchanging vicious blows. Garou is baffled that despite using Mode: Saitama to match his power, Saitama simply hits harder with the next blows. After landing a punch on Saitama in the solar plexus, Garou is met with an uppercut that sends him flying. It becomes evident that Saitama's strength is increasing exponentially, leaving Garou unable to keep up and realizing he could be killed by one of Saitama's punches at this rate. Fueled by emotion, Saitama's power surges, while the Hero Hunter falls further behind, dashing around at incredible speed to prepare for his next attack. Meanwhile, Saitama notices that his costume has been completely destroyed and feels the cold.
In a fit of rage, Garou throws a punch at Saitama, who casually catches it without even looking. Just then, Saitama feels a sneeze coming on due to the cold. Instinctively, Garou dodges as Saitama unleashes a Serious Sneeze that not only clears a massive area of debris from Io but also devastates a vast expanse of Jupiter's atmosphere and weather system.
The display of power leaves Garou in shock as they rocket away from Io and Jupiter from the force of Saitama's sneeze. While soaring through space, Garou spots the Sun and, using his enhanced vision, clearly sees Earth and the Moon, allowing him to teleport there. Before doing so, he throws a Nuclear Fission punch at Saitama's face, providing himself the opportunity to escape through a portal. Garou celebrates his return and presumed victory, only to discover, to his horror, that Saitama is right behind him, complimenting Garou on his teleportation ability. Bewildered, Garou asks how Saitama managed to follow him, to which Saitama responds that the coldness of space gave him a stomach ache. Initially holding it in, Garou's last attack surprised him, prompting him to jettison himself through Garou's portal using his flatulence. Saitama then punches Garou in the face as they hurtle toward Earth. Upon crash landing, Saitama's punch shatters Mode: Saitama, revealing Garou's battered and bruised human face beneath.
Aftermath[]
Finally defeated, Garou questions why Saitama won't kill him. Saitama replies that it's because he is a hero and that it was Tareo's final request to stop him without taking his life. Garou pauses at the mention of "final request," and when he glances to the side, he sees Tareo's body, which has succumbed to the radiation emitted by Garou. In utter despair, Garou screams and tries to flee, realizing he is responsible for the boy's death, but he stumbles and falls to the ground. As he sees Tareo's lifeless body and the desolate landscape, Garou sorrowfully understands that he is indeed the Ominous Future. Saitama wonders why Garou has been acting so strangely since he first appeared in his Cosmic Fear Mode, asking if someone truly made him into what he is now. Garou solemnly replies that if that were the case, it was due to his weak spirit.
Garou continues to lament, recognizing that if he cannot defeat Saitama, he can never truly be "Absolute Evil." Even so, he would have found satisfaction if Saitama had killed him in the way he envisions heroes vanquishing villains, allowing his legacy of true evil to persist. He intended to save someone like Tareo with his ideals, but Saitama says that Garou merely clung to Tareo for support. Garou prepares to angrily retort when he notices Saitama still holding Genos's core, realizing that even someone with Saitama's power needs something to help him continue fighting. When Saitama asks what Garou will do now, Garou somberly asks him for a favor: he wants Saitama to copy his martial arts technique, believing that Saitama could utilize it to its fullest potential. Garou intends to pass on his most powerful martial arts technique, one he hasn't mastered even while wielding "God's" power.
Saitama agrees, and Garou begins to prepare the technique for transfer, knowing that Saitama would be the only one capable of mastering the power of "God". Suddenly, "God" intervenes, siphoning his power and life force, causing his body to break down into salt. Saitama is concerned, but Garou urges him to stay focused. As Saitama appears to successfully master the technique, Garou's final words to the hero are that he is the only one who can defeat the Ominous Future before the Hero Hunter completely perishes, his body crumbling into salt.
Saitama travels backwards in time, witnessing all the moments from their battle and marveling at Garou's technique. When he spots the moment Garou declares himself as the Ominous Future to the heroes of the Hero Association, Saitama punches through it. As the present timeline Garou looks up and prepares to say "thank you", he is suddenly struck by a powerful punch from Saitama, who has returned to the present. This punch carries the amplified power from their battle on Io. Garou is sent flying, crashing to the ground and cracking his face upon impact. Shocked by the sudden turn of events, Garou begins to lose his divine power as it escapes from the exposed part of his face.
Trivia[]
- The term Awakened Garou (č¦éććć¬ćć¦, Kakusei-shita GarÅ) was introduced by Black Sperm in the original webcomic,[1][2] while in the manga, it was introduced by Garou himself.[3] In the manga, right after transforming under the influence of "God", Garou dubbed his new transformation as Awakened Garou: Cosmic Fear Mode (č¦éć¬ćć¦: å®å®ēęęć¢ć¼ć, Kakusei GarÅ: Kozumikku FiÄ MÅdo) before fighting Saitama.
