Overview
You are correct. Humans are foolish.
— God to Homeless Emperor[1]

An enigmatic entity referred to as God (カミ, Kami) by several individuals such as Homeless Emperor,[2] Psykos,[3] and Blast.[4] It serves as overarching antagonist of the Monster Association Arc, controlling and empowering several major villains.

Appearance[]

In its first appearance, "God" looked like a swirling gust of wind with scribbles that outline a person.[2] "God" is described by Psykos as reminiscent of Jupiter's surface with countless spiraling spots overlapping over one another.[5]

When Saitama, Flashy Flash, and Manako peered through a hole while they were underground, "God" seemingly appeared to be in another dimension and it looked like an extremely massive humanoid entity, so much so that it completely dwarfed the hole they peered into.[6] However, none of the three could see it.[7]

When making its second appearance in Homeless Emperor's vision, it looked like a giant humanoid figure made entirely out of flesh and bones with no face. It is unknown whether its physical form is the same, if it even has one, or if they were just imaginary projections in Homeless Emperor's mind.

When making an appearance in a vision to Tatsumaki and Garou, "God" impersonated Blast's appearance as he was when Blast first met Tatsumaki and Bang for Garou. The facade quickly faded to display its true faceless appearance once the trick failed to work for either of them.

Personality[]

"God" gave Homeless Emperor its powers[2] and enhanced the abilities of Orochi and Psykos,[8] although its motives remain unknown. "God" apparently agrees with Homeless Emperor's belief that humanity is a worthless plague on an otherwise grand and beautiful planet.[2]

It also has the tendency to test whether people are worthy to receive its power or not through a mysterious cube. If not, they will face "forfeiture", presumably killing them.[9]

Apparently, "God" tends to keep people from being aware of its existence or knowing about it if possible. This is seen when it mercilessly takes away Homeless Emperor's life and powers before the latter can answer any inquiry from Zombieman.[10] "God" is also an opportunist, as it usually appears in front of people who are at the bottom of despair and disguises as someone they hold dear (if any) so that they will more likely to be tempted by its offer of power. After Garou's defeat at the hands of Saitama in the Ominous Future, "God" killed him while also taking back the powers it had given Garou in an attempt to prevent the Hero Hunter from passing onto Saitama a time travel technique that could undo Garou's bad actions, albeit unsuccessful. This indicates that "God" will kill an individual blessed with its powers if what they do goes against what this mysterious being desires.

While "God" seems to dislike humans, it apparently does not care for life on Earth as well. This was shown as according to Blast, Garou in his Cosmic Fear Mode was still somewhat being manipulated by "God", and that every one of the Hero Hunter's attacks would emit deadly energy that could endanger the life of all living things on the planet, contradicting his hero hunting agenda.

History[]

It's mentioned that in the past twenty years, Blast and his collaborators have been fighting "God". They were searching for and attempting to analyze the mysterious cubes, which allow communication with "God" and transform humans into Mysterious Beings. Two years ago, when Blast fought Elder Centipede, "God" interrupted the S-Class hero and offered him its powers. After refusing to accept its powers, Blast engaged in a fight with the mysterious entity and managed to survive. The sudden appearance of "God" was possibly the reason Elder Centipede could escape from the top-ranking hero. Since then, Blast decided to keep the existence of "God" from other people in the Hero Association.

More than one month prior to Homeless Emperor meeting Zombieman, "God" granted the former his light powers.[11] At some point in the past, "God" turned Empty Void into a Mysterious Being and made him its pawn while he and Blast were searching for the mysterious cubes. Consequently, Blast found himself in the painful position of having to confront and defeat Void, who had once been his partner. It was fifteen years ago that Blast emerged victorious in the battle, leaving Void with grave injuries that would take the aforementioned time to recover from.

Human Monster Saga[]

Monster Association Arc[]

Homeless Emperor meets God

"God" appearing in front of Homeless Emperor

"God" is first seen in a flashback as Homeless Emperor recounts his backstory to Zombieman. He describes how he stumbled upon it in the park one day. It compliments Homeless Emperor for his "correct" ideology but states the human has no reason to die. Instead, it gave him the ability to summon and control energy spheres at will, telling the newly-empowered human he should know what to do with this power and leaving.

God Mural

"God" in the mural's prophecy

During the fight between Orochi and Saitama deep underground, Orochi reveals a tablet he discovered in an ancient shrine, which depicted Orochi and stated that a worthy sacrifice was needed in order to resurrect "God", leading Orochi to believe this was referring to him. Soon after, the hero easily defeats Orochi with a single punch. Before the ancient cave collapses, his remnants crawl to the tablet while the full picture of the actual "God" appears in the mural and is not visible to the Monster King.

"God" is later seen in another flashback as Psykos recounts how she obtained the source of her enhanced power. She describes it as a huge mass of brain cells with a similar appearance to that of Jupiter's surface.

"God" later communicates to Saitama, Flashy Flash, and Manako after they touch a cube. The mysterious figure is surprised that there are three of them, before telling them to put their hands on the cube in order to either gain powers if they are worthy or face "forfeiture" if they are not. The three of them make no decision as Blast suddenly appears and confiscates the cube himself. Before the hero teleports the cube to an unknown location, "God" makes a final shocked comment as to the presence of Blast.

After Homeless Emperor's defeat, when Zombieman begins inquiring more about the entity Homeless Emperor was speaking of, he suddenly sees a colossal figure appear and stand on top of the Moon. The entity then appears in his mind, only with its appearance being changed into a colossal giant of flesh and fractured bones. It then mercilessly takes away Homeless Emperor's light powers and his life, causing his body to disintegrate in the process.[10]

Later on, when Tatsumaki was down and near unconscious, "God" attempts to lure her into taking its powers, using Blast's own form to do so. However, it fails as Tatsumaki realizes that it is not the real Blast and simply asks "God" regarding its true identity. "God" then simply leaves in irritation.

God tells Garou that he will be his avatar

"God" leaves after talking to Garou

During the fight between Saitama and Garou, the latter's attack manages to weaken the dimensional seal keeping "God" at bay. In the sky, several large clouds formed, and through the clouds, God's feet appeared and began walking. As Garou was defeated by Saitama, "God" communicates with him through telepathy and offers him the power to defeat the Caped Baldy. While it impersonates Bang's appearance and offers Garou its hand, despite Garou realizing that somebody's impersonated his former master and just slapping its hand away, the mere act of him "touching" the hand of "God" was enough for him to be influenced by the mysterious entity. Before leaving and vanishing from Garou's sight, "God" states that it will make him its "avatar", with the Hero Hunter afterward nearly losing consciousness from the intense flow of power through his entire body.

Despite being empowered by "God", Garou is still unable to prevail against Saitama. Upon discovering Tareo's death due to his fault, Garou repents and asks Saitama to copy his time travel technique in order to go back to the past and change the Ominous Future. Shortly after Garou begins to use his technique in front of Saitama, "God" kills the Hero Hunter by turning him into a statue of salt, taking back his powers in the process, although not before the Caped Baldy manages to master Garou's technique which he then uses to travel through time.

Saitama returns to the past, arriving at the moment when Garou, shortly after achieving his Cosmic Fear Mode, appeared in front of many heroes. He lets out a powerful punch toward the Hero Hunter's face, defeating him before the Ominous Future could occur again. Soon, Saitama is thrown back into his "past" self and becomes one with him, having forgotten what's happened. Suffered defeat from a mysterious knockout punch, a confused Garou screams in pain as God's powers begin to leave his body, freeing him from the influence of the enigmatic entity.

God mentioned in an emergency meeting held by Sitch

"God" mentioned in an emergency meeting held by Sitch

Following the Monster Association's downfall, an emergency meeting is held by Sitch, with Sekingar, Sweet Mask and only several S-Class heroes attending. "God" is discussed regarding its powers to telepathically communicate with and transform humans into Mysterious Beings. The heroes present are ordered to keep the information about this figure secret until they find countermeasures against the threat. When Sitch directs Blast's message stating that something is attracting the attention of "God", Saitama is briefly seen, implying the latter's presence has caught the interest of "God".

Fubuki sensing God's presence

Fubuki sensing the presence of "God"

Later, when Fubuki is on her way to meet Psykos at the Hero Association Headquarters, she recalls her encounter with the latter during the Monster Association raid. After defeating Psykos, Fubuki briefly sensed the presence of "God" while trying to figure out the source of Psykos' madness.

Abilities and Powers[]

It resembled brain cells... visualizations of outer space... and the surface of Jupiter. It was something like God... And as time stopped, its gaze fell on me. I was afraid... even as a mysterious power filled me. In that moment, I awakened to my destiny.
— Psykos describing her encounter with "God".

Little is known about the full extent of God's abilities. The appearance of one of God's mysterious cubes was enough for the top-ranked S-Class hero, Blast, to show up.[12] Considering that Blast will only take action when humanity faces a true crisis,[13] it can be presumed that "God" is an exceedingly dangerous threat.

After receiving what seem-to-be a fraction of power from "God", Garou mutated, gained various powerful abilities, and became capable enough to fight against and even force Saitama to get serious before ultimately being defeated. This event gives a strong impression that "God" is phenomenally powerful due to being Garou's source of power. Furthermore, Sitch has mentioned that standing up against "God" requires the ability to manipulate space-time, which speaks volumes for the terrifying power of this mysterious entity.[14]

Supernatural Abilities[]

Power Bestowal: "God" is capable of turning humans into Mysterious Beings and granting them supernatural powers. It gave Homeless Emperor the incredible power of summoning energy spheres similar to little suns that explode on contact and create huge and flaming bursts.[2] It also gave Psykos and Orochi a massive boost in power during their fusion, enough to slice through the Earth's surface in a single attack.[15] Additionally, "God" can grant powers to individuals who place their hands on one of the mysterious cubes. However, if they are not worthy to be bestowed upon, they will face "forfeiture" and presumably die.[16] It is also capable of taking back the granted powers along with the lives of the wielders.[10]

Thanks to the powers received from "God", Garou awakened to the flow of all energy and the behaviour of all forces in the cosmos;[17] the Hero Hunter also having become capable of fighting against even a serious Saitama, albeit losing in the end.[18][19]

Mind Incursion: "God" was able to get inside Homeless Emperor's mind and communicate with him. It could also freely change the appearance of its projection in Homeless Emperor's mind.[10] Besides, this ability allows "God" to find and disguise as someone its targets hold dear. It used this ability on Tatsumaki, changing its appearance to that of Blast and trying to lure her into taking its powers, but failed.[20] On the contrary, its attempt at Garou by imposing as Bang was a success, though the Hero Hunter received its power by accident by slapping its hand away. Despite Garou having managed to retain part of his personality after being mutated by "God", this enigmatic entity could still mentally influence the Hero Hunter and make him much more cruel than before.

Telepathy: "God" can mentally communicate with humans on Earth. It first used telepathy to communicate with Flashy Flash, Saitama, and Manako after they had touched a mysterious cube, which allows for contacting it.[21] However, it is possible for "God" to come into contact with someone without that person touching the aforementioned cube, as seen when Garou was approached by this mysterious entity after being beaten by Saitama.[22] Additionally, soon after the Monster Association incident, an emergency meeting was held by Sitch with the attendance of Sekingar and a few S-Class heroes, to discuss how to issue warnings that anybody can become a monster at any moment for talking with "God" telepathically.[23]

God's feet coming out of portals

The feet of "God" emerging from mysterious thunderclouds

Dimensional Travel: "God" is able to traverse between dimensions. According to Blast, this enigmatic being was close to breaking through a dimensional barrier, and its feet were shown walking coming out of mysterious thunderclouds which seem-to-be dimensional rifts.[24] Blast has also remarked that "God" intervenes in the world more often because something in this dimension (implied to be Saitama) is catching its attention.[25]

Invisibility: "God" can cast images of itself and conversely hide from those it does not wish to see it. Many heroes (including Saitama) were not able to see the feet of "God" coming out of dimensional rifts.[26]

Miscellaneous Abilities[]

Cosmic Knowledge: Due to having imparted Garou the immense knowledge of the universe, it can be presumed that "God" is also extremely knowledgeable about the cosmos.

Quotes[]

  • (To Homeless Emperor) "I will grant you power. What to do with this power, you should know."[2]
  • (To Saitama, Flashy Flash and Manako) "Three visitors at the same time? How unusual. Let me see if you are worthy vessels to bestow my power upon."[27]
    • "Place your hand on that box and make a fervent wish. If you are worthy, you shall gain power from it. But if not, you will face forfeiture."[28]
  • (To Homeless Emperor) "Silence. I am taking them back. Your power, your life, they are both forfeit."[29]
  • (To Tatsumaki) "Come. Take my power, and we can strike down your enemies together."[30]

Trivia[]

  • Murata stated that Homeless Emperor's energy-based powers are the same as Choze and Vaccine Man's.[31]
    • Like Homeless Emperor, Vaccine Man also claimed to be on a sacred mission to destroy humanity, but stated that it was "Mother Nature" he served, rather than "God".
  • It is implied that there is a connection between "God" and the Moon. There are multiple instances with the moon appearing during the big fight between the Hero Association and Monster Association,[32][33] as if it is an eye watching the battlefield.[34] This is indicated when "God" has emerged and stood on top of the moon before taking Homeless Emperor's powers and his life.[35]
  • "God" has many similarities with the Great Old Ones from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, as it is a being that exists in another dimension, and seems to be able to physically interact with the universe yet not quite be fully present in this dimension. It also shares similarities with the Outer God Nyarlathotep as it makes deals with mortals and despises humans yet enjoys toying with them while having seemingly inscrutable motives.
  • It's possible that the highest threat level originates from the existence of "God".
  • Murata has made a tweet portraying the descent of "God" destroys something resembling the Hero Association Headquarters.[36]
