Genbu (ゲンブ, Genbu) is a Dragon (or higher)-level Mysterious Being. It is a divine beast and serves as a Guardian Beast (守護獣, Shugojū) of "God".[1] It was killed by Blast and Empty Void.
Appearance[]
Genbu resembles a massive, monstrous tortoise intertwined with a snake.
Personality[]
Little is known about Genbu's personality, aside from its unwavering loyalty to "God" and its role in serving this entity. Upon arriving on Earth, Genbu immediately and violently caused destruction in the surrounding areas.
Plot[]
Neo Heroes Saga[]
Ninjas Arc[]
In the absence of Blast from his designated post, Genbu and Byakko emerge from another dimension and invade Earth. They immediately unleash widespread destruction, leveling nearby city blocks. However, they are swiftly intercepted by Empty Void and Blast, who overpower them using their respective techniques, Dimension Slash and Giga Gravity Blow, killing them and sending them back to another dimension.
Abilities and Powers[]
As a Divine Beast with a Dragon (or higher) disaster level, Genbu is an exceptionally powerful Mysterious Being, far beyond typical Dragon-level threats. During its brief appearance on Earth, it, along with Byakko, caused great devastation by demolishing entire city blocks. However, Blast, the top-ranking S-Class hero, and Empty Void, the Ninja Village leader, were able to overpower them.
Physical Abilities[]
Immense Durability: As a Divine Beast with a Dragon (or higher) disaster level, Genbu is very durable. Its turtle-like body structure, complete with a shell, suggests powerful defensive capabilities.
Immense Strength: Being a large-sized Mysterious Being and a Divine Beast with a Dragon (or higher) disaster level, Genbu presumably possesses tremendous physical strength.
Supernatural Abilities[]
Energy Projection: Genbu can fire energy blasts from its mouth, capable of causing large-scale destruction to the surrounding environment.
Trivia[]
- Genbu and Byakko are the first Mysterious Beings in the manga introduced with a "Dragon (or higher)" (竜以上, Ryū ijō) disaster level. Boros and Orochi were also stated to be "Dragon (or higher)" by ONE and Murata, respectively, though not in the manga but in Interviews.
- Genbu is inspired by the Black Tortoise, one of the Four Symbols from Chinese constellations. In Japan, it is believed to guard the north side of Kyoto, serving as one of the four guardian spirits that protect the city.
- Genbu, like TurtleBerus, is also a presumed reference to Gamera, the famous turtle kaiju being often referred to the Black Tortoise[2] where Yusuke Murata had previously sketched a Godzilla vs. Gamera illustration.[3]
