Overview

"The Ultimate Master" is the fifth episode of the One-Punch Man anime series.

Summary[]

Saitama's overwhelming strength

Saitama dominating the exam

Saitama and Genos are finally going to become registered heroes, but first they have to pass a physical and written test in order to prove that they worthy of being a hero. Saitama easily surpasses the physical exam and anyone else that took it. Even though he aces the physical exams, he doesn't do as well on the written part. Saitama passes the test by just 1 point and is given a C rank, while Genos gets a perfect score and is given an S rank.

Saitama and Genos are the only ones who made it out of all the applicants to actually be in a class where Sneck is going to teach the class. Sadly the class A Teacher is too confident in his skills but Genos and Saitama are clearly stronger. Then in class the teacher gets annoyed by Saitama for not paying attention and tries to teach him a lesson, only to embarrass himself. Later that day Genos wants to spar with Saitama because of his newest upgrades.

Genos overwhelmed by Saitama

Genos still doesn't believe Saitama's secret training strategy and thinks there must be some other secret that even Saitama himself might not know. Meanwhile Genos is giving it his all in the spar while Saitama is just messing around, not really caring about the fight. So he asks Saitama to give it his all, and right when he does the fight ends without Saitama even hitting him. Then Genos came to realize that Saitama is on another level that even he himself can't pass by just training.

After the training they visit an udon shop where they had an eating contest where Genos had no problem completing while Saitama nearly passed out. Sweet Mask suddenly came and requested to speak to Genos outside. Sweet Mask came to congratulate Genos and welcomed him to the team, much to Genos' surprise.

Manga and Anime Differences[]

  • The Hero Association meeting scene is anime original. There was also no indication that Genos was being observed by the Hero Association.
  • In the manga, Saitama does the weightlifting using both of his arms, rather than using only one arm. The barbell also seems to be heavier, causing the spot where he is standing to be cracked upon lifting it.
  • Shot Put, Whack-A-Mole and the Punching Machine are anime-only hero tests.
  • Saitama mistaking his C-Class for an S-Class rank is an anime-only scene.
  • Genos being questioned by the Hero Association about the House of Evolution is anime-only.
  • Unlike the anime, Sweet Mask was not shown being asked to approve Genos' placement in S-Class in the manga.
  • Genos tells Saitama the info about the Hero Association on the walk home. This was done, when he first told Saitama about the Hero Association in the manga.
  • Saitama vs. Genos is slightly altered.
  • The aftermath of Saitama's punch in the anime clearly shows the damage to the cliff. The large cloud of dust that was in the manga is not in the anime.
  • The udon restaurant scene where Sweet Mask meets Genos was anime-only.
  • After the ending, Genos asking to move in is almost the same as the manga. In the manga, Saitama was reading Gokuri Buster (a real one-shot ONE and Murata collaborated on) instead of eating a popsicle.

Trivia[]

  • Sneck gives the episode monologue at the end of the credits.
