The Cruel Dragon Arc is the eighteenth arc of the series, and the third arc of the Neo Heroes Saga.
Plot[]
Saitama accidentally gets into a conflict between two factions: the Saints and Deathbone. After Saitama defeats Rangor, one of the nine warriors from the Dragon Alliance allied with Deathbone, the Saints express their gratitude and recount a tale about Cruel Dragon, an ancient beast that once terrorized humanity until it was sealed away by a group of ancient soldiers using nine sealing orbs. To prevent Cruel Dragon's resurrection, the Saints have been entrusted with guarding these nine stones, as gathering them all would break the seal and unleash the dragon. In contrast, Deathbone, a cult that believes its members are dragon-born, yearns for the dragon's revival and seeks humanity's destruction, which has led to the ongoing struggle over the sealing stones. This conflict has persisted for 800 years, but Deathbone has recently increased their activity, taking advantage of the recent frequent monster incidents. One of the Saints warriors holds down a Deathbone member, who begins to monologue about how Deathbone will continue its quest until Cruel Dragon is revived and humanity is eradicated, until Saitama throws a bucket of water on his face. Saitama then decides that instead of waiting any longer, the dragon can be freed right now to finish it off once and for all. To the Saints' dismay, he picks up the Deathbone member, who assists him in locating all nine seals, and together they escape from the pursuing Saints.
Saitama annihilates Cruel Dragon
Before long, Saitama gathers all nine stones, and a summoning ceremony is performed by the Deathbone member. More Saints arrive, trying to intervene, but they are too late as Cruel Dragon is unsealed after centuries of confinement. Upon its revival, Cruel Dragon proclaims its intent to annihilate humanity and then launches an attack on Saitama. However, the dragon swiftly meets its end as Saitama effortlessly destroys it, leaving the Deathbone member in shock and the Saints warriors overjoyed.
Story Impact[]
- Saitama has new experiences in his life, such as the existence of seal stones and cults. When playing video games with King soon after at his apartment, he tells King that he thought such things only existed in games and mangas, and admits that there are many things in the world he does not know of.
- Magic exists in One-Punch Man. The presence of a magic circle during a ritual and the subsequent unleashing of Cruel Dragon indicates that the creature was sealed using magical powers.
