Cruel Dragon

Cruel Dragon (残ざん酷こく竜りゅう, Zankoku Ryū) is an ancient and formidable dragon that once laid waste to civilization before being weakened and sealed within nine stones. It was killed by Saitama.^[1]

Appearance[]

Cruel Dragon is a massive draconic creature characterized by large spikes protruding from its head and tail. It has three pairs of enormous wings, four arms (six in the original webcomic), claws, multiple rows of sharp fangs, and three pupils in each eye.^[1]

Personality[]

Cruel Dragon is cold-blooded and sadistic, which inspired its name. Centuries of imprisonment have amplified its bloodlust, fueling its desire to eradicate humanity.^[1]

History[]

Long ago, Cruel Dragon wreaked havoc and claimed a great number of lives. A group of ancient soldiers united and, though suffering significant casualties, managed to weaken and seal the dragon by fragmenting its essence into nine stones. Since then, a cult called Deathbone, which believes its members to be dragon-born, has sought to collect the stones and free Cruel Dragon from its imprisonment. Their adversaries, known as The Saints, have consistently thwarted their efforts, leading to an eight-century-long conflict.

The conflict between the two factions concludes when Saitama ultimately eliminates Cruel Dragon shortly after it is unsealed.

During the battle between Saitama and Garou, a powerful attack from the Hero Hunter causes a temple with Cruel Dragon's head to rise from beneath the sea.^[2]

Saitama accidentally becomes involved in a confrontation between the Saints, a group dedicated to keeping Cruel Dragon sealed, and Deathbone, a cult of "dragonborn" individuals attempting to release the dragon by gathering all nine stones. After being briefed on the situation, Saitama decides to unseal Cruel Dragon to defeat it, alleviating the Saints' burden of containment. Once released, Cruel Dragon declares its intention to annihilate humanity before attacking Saitama. However, Saitama quickly annihilates it with a single punch.^[1]

Abilities and Powers[]

The true extent of Cruel Dragon's power is difficult to assess due to its undefined disaster level and the swiftness of Saitama's victory. Nevertheless, it was undoubtedly a highly dangerous creature, capable of scorching vast areas of land with its fire breath in just a few days. Despite its formidable strength, a group of unknown soldiers managed to weaken it, albeit at a great cost. The Saints feared that if unsealed, Cruel Dragon would destroy all of humanity.^[1]

Immense Strength: Given its enormous size alone, Cruel Dragon possesses enormous physical strength.

Flight: Cruel Dragon possesses 3 sets of wings with which it can likely fly.^[1]

Supernatural Abilities[]

Fire Manipulation: Cruel Dragon can breathe fire from its mouth and scorch the surrounding lands.^[1]

Trivia[]

Cruel Dragon is a reference to the storytelling trope of an ancient evil that has been sealed away and threatens to return, which is used in many classic stories such as the myth of Pandora's Box. This trope is subverted by having Saitama wake the evil up himself to just kill it and get it over with.
