"Authenticity" (真贋, Shingan, Tonari: 152) is the 108th chapter of the One-Punch Man manga series.

Summary[]

Iaian, Okamaitachi, and Bushidrill are shown battered from their battle with Devil Long Hair. Having cut through every strain of Devil Long Hair's locks, he collapses commenting that it was his Achilles heel. Surprised by their victory, the disciples comment that they would not have won individually and worry that more monsters of that level may exist. Iaian says they won't have to worry about their master.

The scene changes to Atomic Samurai cutting down several monsters when a sword wielding monster, Sword Devil Executioner, praises Atomic's skill. Surprised a monster survived his slash, Atomic Samurai cuts his opponent down before the monster knows what happened. Atomic asks any monster not yet dead to raise their hand. G5 raises his mechanical arm and says that he has analyzed all of Atomic's moves and they begin a high-speed sword duel.

Atomic comments that modern day "toys" have become interesting and says that he'd like to buy one, prompting G5 to begin its attack. Despite copying the Atomic Slash with two swords, G5 still loses to Atomic Samurai, who slices his foe into hundreds of pieces, looking quite disappointed about the robot's performance. Atomic Samurai also realizes that he couldn't cut through the core of the Machine God, due to being made of an unidentified material, harder than G5's exterior. A laser beam appears in the middle of the dust cloud created during the clash, but Atomic Samurai still deflects it and sends an Air Blade of his own to counter. As the flying slash penetrates the smoke, Atomic realizes that the real opponent has escaped, and says he'll leave it to the surface team of heroes.

The scene changes to Atomic Samurai's disciples once again, while they are having a conversation with Narinki's Private Squad. The group of mercenaries admits to be envious of the way the three swordsmen can cancel out their own bloodlust during fights, and invite them to join a private military company (PMC) they work for. The disciples refuse the offer, because their hero activities are actually integrated in their training. When Bushidrill asks Tongara if they are interested in hero work or sworsdmanship, the mercenary leader replies saying such things are in the way in combat, and explains how being a mercenary forces people to use dirty moves, like acting scared to deceive enemies. As an example, Tongara brings up the fact that the entire team was actually acting when crying in front of monsters, but in reality all of them were crying for real. Iaian appears to be impressed by the teamwork of the squad, and finds it important that heroes like them follow their example.

The scene immediately switches to Tareo being chased by Black Sperm when a slash from Atomic Samurai stops the monster, forcing him to dodge. Atomic comments on his speed as the chapter ends.

Trivia[]

  • Before being redrawn, the chapter's title was "Atomic Samurai" (アトミック侍, Atomikku-Zamurai) and included a longer fight between Atomic Samurai and G5.
  • Due to the mercenaries having been killed by Sweet Mask in the original plot, Tongara's conversation with the disciples did not happen at all in the scrapped version.
