I don’t think Sweet Mask gets enough love.

Okay, so I couldn’t help but notice the amount apparent disdain towards him. Lots of people label him as generally unkind, annoying or just detestable in general. Now, I can’t even blame people for thinking this initially, but once you find out the truth about why he acts the way he does, I hope there’ll be a change of opinion.

Sweet Mask was born a hideous monster, and so much so to the point of being on the receiving end of negative perception. He grew to loathe himself for this very reason, and this ultimately led to him covering his face when he became a hero. The constant battles he partook in coupled by the great extensions he took to remain hidden ultimately led to him developing a beautiful appearance. (Yeah it’s weird- lol)

When his new face was revealed to the people, he expected an awful reaction, only to find out then that it had changed. People cheered him on and revered him for his looks, and it was then when he discovered how much looks truly matter in society, intentional or not. From then on, Sweet Mask functioned under the impression that good looks mattered and that the opposite was simply unacceptable. He grew obsessed to the point of developing an obsession with appearing at his best at all times. He also expected others to follow this same ideology. This side of him was born purely out of his initial understanding of humans and how they behaved. It was they who had shaped him to be this way.

As well as looks, Sweet Mask cared deeply for his sense of justice. As a monster, his morals are incredibly ambiguous and subject to change, which is why he clings so tightly to act of killing monsters. In order to continue clinging to his human side, he must continue to exterminate monsters in the hopes of reminding himself of how he should be acting as a human being. He expects the same from his fellow humans too. Those who cannot protect others from the monster menace are no better than those they should be protecting, as at that point, are they really doing what it is they are supposed to be doing?

Sweet Mask clings to every last bit of humanity he has left by convincing himself that, to be good means to exhaust evil at all costs.
